- Cleveland Clinic Sets Healthy Example
Shape Up The Nation client Cleveland Clinic is featured in this CNN story about its efforts to promote wellness internally and in the community.

Excerpt from the article:
The clinic staff tries to set an example: Yoga classes on the roof; exercise facilities; healthier choices in both the staff and public cafeteria; walking routes in the halls and on the grounds; a policy that forbids hiring smokers. So far, CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove says the staff has lost a combined 75,000 pounds — an emphasis on wellness that he says will without a doubt lower the hospital's own health care costs. “Seventy percent of the cost in health care is from chronic disease,” Cosgrove told us in an interview at his Cleveland Clinic office. “And chronic diseases come from really three big things — from obesity, from lack of exercise and from smoking. And it also results in 40 percent of the premature deaths in the United States. So we have to do something as a nation to begin to deal with all those.”

- Study Proves Impact of Shaping Up Together
A new clinical study on our Shape Up wellness program was published in the May issue of the respected journal Obesity. The paper focuses on weight loss outcomes and exercise levels achieved by nearly 5,000 participants in our team-based intervention.

Excerpt from the article:
“Sometimes, just the competition can help motivate people. Clarian Health contracted with Shape Up The Nation, a national firm that organizes team–based wellness competitions, to create a 12–week program that ended in April. A total of 1,314 workers registered and reported daily online at www.shapeupthenation.com in contests tracking weight loss, exercise minutes and pedometer steps. Results piled up: 3,605 pounds lost, nearly 1.3 million exercise minutes and 184,171 miles on pedometers. “It went over well with our population, and our numbers indicate it,” said Emily Bubb, Clarian human resources official. For some people, wellness challenges can intensify their own efforts and cement habits that last long after contests end.”
