A new clinical study on our Shape Up wellness program was published in the May issue of the respected journal Obesity. The paper focuses on weight loss outcomes and exercise levels achieved by nearly 5,000 participants in our team-based intervention.

Research studies dating back to the early 1980s have consistently demonstrated both the cost–effectiveness and the significant weight loss outcomes of workplace-based wellness competitions. Our new research builds on this body of work by showing that such interventions are effective and scalable via the Internet across large populations.

Study Highlights:

  • 30% of participants achieved clinically significant weight loss
    of at least 5%
  • The prevalence of obesity was reduced by 8 points
    from 39% to 31%.
  • Intent–to–treat analysis showed an average BMI reduction of 0.8 points (representing a $160 decrease in annual medical claims)
